One of our proudest moments came in 2025, when players enjoyed an unforgettable end-of-season match at Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium – a real milestone in the club’s journey.

How it started

Welwyn Village Football Club (originally Welwyn Sports & Social Club FC) was founded in the 2021–22 season by a group of local players looking to create a club that balanced competitive football with a strong social atmosphere.

Though our first season was tough — finishing bottom of the league and playing “home” games at Gosling Stadium in Welwyn Garden City — the commitment was there from day one, with 14–16 players regularly turning out each week.

Growth

In 2022–23, a successful pre-season and an influx of new players led to the formation of a reserve team. When Codicote Vets were struggling to continue, a merger brought together both squads, forming WSSC FC and WSSC FC Reserves.

That same season, the players introduced a bright yellow kit, earning the nickname “The Minions” — now proudly part of the club’s identity.

With help from Welwyn Parish Council and the Hertfordshire FA, a new home pitch was created on the playing on the Welwyn Playing Fields, finally bringing the team back to its village roots.

Welwyn Village F.C.

In recognition of the growing support from the local community, the Parish Council, and involvement in events like the Welwyn Festival, the club changed its name to Welwyn Village FC for the 2024/25 season.

The club also expanded further:

We had three veterans teams in the Herts Vets Super League:

Welwyn Village Yellow – eventual Premier League champions

Welwyn Village Blue – Championship division

Welwyn Village Green – Championship division

Welwyn Village Over 45s team – Over 45s Cup Winners
